
Steven Spencer is currently on the board of several early stage
mobile and media companies. His areas of focus are social networking,
messaging, transactions, and advertising.
Mr. Spencer was previously CEO and CTO of Upoc Networks. He is also a
board member of Dada Entertainment, a Joint Venture of Dada USA and Sony
BMG. He successfully integrated the business, operations and technology
of Upoc into Dada S.P.A following Dada’s acquisition of Upoc in August
of 2006.
He is also an executive consultant to the Wireless Industry and serves
as a member of the leadership board of the CTIA WIC.
At Upoc, a leading wireless messaging and marketing company, Mr. Spencer
directed the product development and infrastructure deployment, managed
the technology infrastructure, key customer relationships, development,
QA and customer service.
In 2004, Mr. Spencer served as the CTO for Critical Mention, an
interactive television media monitoring company. He managed the
technology of this start up enterprise through a successful funding
round.
He was previously the EVP and then CTO of Wireless Systems at Pinnacor
where he grew the business from its start-up, to be a significant
supplier of content and wireless application services to Verizon,
Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, AT&T and other wireless carriers. CBS
Marketwatch acquired Pinnacor in 2004.
Mr. Spencer's 20 years in the industry began at Bell Labs. During that
time, he has authored 10 patents.
Mr. Spencer has a BSEE from Union College, MSEE from Cornell University
and an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business.
