Simon Thornington's career in professional software development began
while still studying Computer Science at McGill, when he joined The
Hutchison Avenue Software Corporation. While his prior hobby
experience included writing device drivers and hardware simulators, it
was at Hutchison that he came into his element, working notably on the
creation of a back-end ticker plant, as well as the interface to their
market data platform.
Mr. Thornington left Hutchison in 2001 to pursue research into
proprietary algorithmic trading systems, but stayed engaged in
software consulting, primarily related to web services and IP-based
geolocation technologies.
In 2002, he co-founded Bradley & Thornington, a software
consulting firm
largely focused on capital markets oriented firms such as hedge funds
and market data distribution vendors. The bulk of his work during
this tenure was for a major US data vendor, working on both their
back-end server platform as well as on several of their client-facing
projects. Most recently, he built a reusable message bus based on a
reliable multicast technology whose deployment is expected to
dramatically reduce telecom costs.
Mr. Thornington took a leave of absence from software development in
2009 to pursue his MBA at HEC Montreal, focused on economics and
finance. He is excited to resume his career in the software
industry.
